TU Tau（= HD 38218 = HIP 27135）是一个由 C-N 碳星主星和 A 型伴星组成的双星系统。我们报道了新的测光与光谱观测，追踪了近期 A 型伴星的消失过程。A 型星的变暗是渐进且不规律的，伴随一次或多次短暂增亮，意味着碳星外流中存在非均匀结构。我们还提出证据表明，A 型星正在从碳星吸积 s-过程增丰物质，并由此推测它最终将演化为一颗钡巨星。该系统同样重要，因为 A 型星可作为探测碳星外层大气的探针。
