MUSE 实验中采用 SiPM 读出的定时探测器

摘要

保罗·谢勒研究所的缪子散射实验使用电子、缪子与介子的混合束流,需要精确计时以鉴别束流粒子及其引起的反应。我们描述了为该实验建造的三个采用塑料闪烁体并以硅光电倍增管读出的定时探测器的设计与性能。束流描迹器位于散射靶上游,用于计数束流通量并精确测定束流粒子时间,以鉴别种类并为飞行时间测量提供起始时间。束流监测器位于散射靶下游,计数未散射束流通量,协助鉴别散射事件中的本底,并为飞行时间测量精确测定束流粒子时间。束流聚焦监测器安装在靶真空室内液氢靶下方的靶阶梯上,在专用运行中用于在与靶心邻近的三点采样束斑,此处束流应被聚焦。
