阐述经典 nova 爆炸的机理及其部分观测特性。分析 nova 对银河系化学演化的有限但非零的影响，以及其在银河系中放射性物质的相关性。特别强调从 nova 预测的伽马射线辐射，及其与热核模型本身及相关核合成之间的关系。
