VLT-FLAMES 大质量恒星巡天是一项 ESO 大型项目，旨在理解不同金属丰度环境下的旋转混合与恒星质量损失，从而更好地约束大质量恒星的演化。我们在银河系及麦哲伦云中收集了超过 800 颗恒星的高质量光谱。得益于 8 米望远镜上首台高分辨率、宽视场、多目标光谱仪，如此大规模的样本尚属首次。我们开发了光谱分析技术，结合非局部热动平衡（non-LTE）及谱线遮蔽模型大气，对每一颗恒星进行了定量表征。大样本与理论发展的结合，为最巨大恒星的演化带来了令人振奋的新见解。
