摘要
本文综述了关于椭圆星系紫外光辐射来源的最新观测与理论进展，特别是参考Greggio和Renzini (1990)所包含的广泛预测。来自UIT、HUT和HST数据的强有力支持了热水平分支和AGB缺失情景作为紫外光来源的首选方案。然而，紫外光空间望远镜的灵敏度尚不足以明确检测到随红移而消失的紫外升起分支，这被认为是检验该情景的最终标准。
