极高能（ eV）宇宙射线的起源仍是个谜。我讨论了“顶向下”模型，其中极高能宇宙射线来源于非常巨大、寿命很长的粒子的衰变。我总结了衰变产物能谱的计算，讨论了该情景可能存在的问题，并描述了通过寻找高能中微子和中性微子来测试它的方法。
