金星大气的超旋转需要在上层大气中存在大力矩。通过波或电离层运动向大气其他部分提供净平衡的机制已被提出，但都存在困难。在这里，我们证明云层从白天到夜晚的反照率梯度允许存在足够的光压梯度，从而提供驱动这种流动的外部力矩。
