超新星（SNe）长期以来被怀疑可能是伽马射线暴（GRBs）的 progenitor。这些论点依赖于间接证据。近期几个GRB，尤其是GRB 030329，已提供直接的光谱证据表明SNe与GRBs相关。与GRB相关的SNe都是Type Ic类型，这暗示了一个紧凑的 progenitor，这对GRB模型具有启发意义。其他异常的Type Ic SNe可能有助于拓展对相关机制的理解。
