轻夸克自然地出现在试图统一粒子物理标准模型中夸克和轻子部门的模型中。这种粒子可以通过其与夸克和中微子的直接耦合，在高能准水平宇宙中微子与大气层的相互作用中产生。轻夸克的强子衰变产物，可能还有其轻子衰变产物，将产生广延空气簇射，可在大型宇宙线实验中观测到。在这封信中，我们估计并讨论了当前和计划中的甚高能宇宙线实验对不同类型轻夸克产生的灵敏度。
