第三族恒星，即由原始大爆炸物质形成的第一代恒星，具有上重初始质量函数，它们对宇宙再电离有重要贡献，并且对于理解星系的早期金属增丰至关重要。因此，观测到这些理论预言的物体非常重要。然而，通过HeII 1640A谱线特征搜寻的第三族恒星至今仍难以捉摸。我们报告了在一个红移z=6.5的星系中搜寻HeII谱线的情况，该星系是一个非常有希望的候选体。不幸的是，我们还不能展示这次搜寻的结果。然而，我们提请关注在红移z=3.4的一个透镜HII矮星系中可能探测到第三族恒星，该结果出现在几年前文献中，但一直被忽视。
