彗星 103P/Hartley 2 活动性持续下降

我们报告了对 2023 年彗星 103P/Hartley 2 视程观测的结果。本次观测于 2023 年 8 月至 12 月间进行,采用由 Unistellar 和 Association Française d'Astronomie 协调的全球公民天文学家网络数据。通过与 SETI 研究所合作的 eVscope 自动化管线以及 AstroLab Stellar 的光度测绘,获得了 photometric 数据。我们发现,该彗星的峰值最亮度为 ,这延续了自 1991 年以来的长期衰减趋势。衰减率为每一次近日点最小亮度增加 星等,相当于每次近日点约 42% 的亮度减弱。这一趋势表明,该彗星自 1991 年以来活跃面积约减小了一个数量级,并可能表明 Hartley 2 已不再符合超活跃( hyperactive)的定义。这种衰减符合逐渐挥发性物质耗竭而非轨道效应的解释。这些结果为理解木星家族彗星的演化过程提供了新的见解。
