中间红移阻性 Lyman-α 吸收体的本质

我们报告了对七个显示出阻性 Lyman-α 吸收线、21cm 吸收或强烈 MgII/FeII 吸收系统（介于 0.4 < z < 1）的七个类星体视线附近进行的 HST/WFPC2 高空间分辨率成像（R 和 B 波段）。在每个案例中，都检测到了绝对星等 Mb = -19.0 或更亮的候选吸收体。该样本覆盖了在中间红移下富有气体的星系，涵盖广泛的形态类型：包括三个大小和亮度各异的螺旋星系（针对 3C 196、Q 1209+107 和 MC 1331+170）、三个紧凑天体（针对 EX 0302-223、PKS 0454+039 以及在更高红移处的 MC 1331+170）以及两个非晶态、低表面亮度的星系（针对 PKS 1229-021 和 3C 286）。在 3C 196、PKS 1229-021 和 Q 1209+107 的场区域，PC2 图像中存在星系过量，暗示着与阻性 Lyman-α 吸收体或可能与类星体本身相关的星系群。对于 3C 196 和 3C 286，类星体宿主星系也被tentatively发现。
