NANOGrav 15年数据集:对来自单个超大质量黑洞双星的引力波的贝叶斯上限

摘要
基于脉冲星计时阵列数据分析,近期已报告了低频随机引力波背景的证据。此类背景最可能的源是超大质量黑洞双星群体,其中最响亮的个体可能在这些数据集中被单独探测到。在此我们展示在NANOGrav 15年数据集中对单个超大质量黑洞双星的搜寻。我们引入了若干新技术,提升了分析的效率和建模精度。该搜寻发现了两个候选信号的微弱证据,一个引力波频率约为 4 nHz,另一个在 170 nHz。当背景模型中包含Hellings-Downs相关时,低频候选的显著性大幅降低。高频候选因缺乏合理的宿主星系、发现此类源的天体物理先验几率极低,且其主要支持来自一颗具有 commensurate 双星周期的脉冲星而被排除。由于未发现来自单个双星系统的确凿证据,我们对这类系统所发射引力波的应变振幅给出了上限。
