麦哲伦云作为研究恒星种群和星系相互作用的模板

摘要

麦哲伦系统代表了研究星系形成和演化的最佳场所之一。各种深度、面积和波长的测光巡天对我们理解该系统产生了重大影响;然而,完整的图景仍然缺失。VMC(麦哲伦系统的 VISTA 近红外 YJKs 巡天)将提供新数据,以推导空间分辨的恒星形成历史并构建该系统的三维地图。这些数据与其他正在进行和计划中的巡天数据相结合,将为我们提供该系统绝对独特的视角,从而开启真正的新科学大门!
