Magellan-TESS 巡天 I:巡天描述与中期结果

KeplerKepler 揭示约三分之一的类太阳恒星拥有轨道周期在 100 天以内、大小介于地球与海王星之间的行星。这些行星如何形成、由什么构成,它们代表一个连续种群还是多个种群?为帮助解答这些问题,我们启动了 Magellan-TESS 巡天(MTS),利用 Magellan II/PFS 获取 30 颗 TESS 探测到的系外行星的径向速度(RV)质量,并开发一个将观测到的行星分布与潜在种群相联系的分析框架。过去,由于宿主恒星暗弱和 RV 半振幅低,小型行星的 RV 测量难以获取;且由于目标选择和观测规划决策中潜在的偏差,其解释也具挑战性。MTS 通过聚焦明亮的 TESS 目标并采用定量选择函数与观测策略,试图最小化这些偏差。在本文中,我们(1)描述研究动机与巡天策略,(2)呈现针对 27 个 TESS 兴趣对象(TOIs;其中 22 个在我们的种群分析样本中,12 个属于同一系统)的行星密度约束首份星表,以及(3)采用层次贝叶斯模型对质量-半径(M-R)关系给出初步约束。我们发现,导致先前 M-R 关系在 1 R1~R_\oplus 处预测相当高质量的那些偏差已被减弱。本工作可为单系统的更细致研究提供参考,并提供一个可应用于未来 RV 巡天以进行种群推断的框架。
