早型星系（E+S0）的数密度随红移如何演化？它们的星形成历史如何？它们的质量密度轮廓及其他结构属性是否随红移演化？回答这些问题是理解 E+S0 如何形成与演化的关键。我综述了这些议题的观测证据，重点关注红移范围 z=0.1-1，并与当前星系形成模型的预测进行比较。
