淡光天变测量计划旨在发现亮度范围在17至25星等之间、时间尺度在几分钟到数年之间的变星，光度精度从最亮的3毫星等到最暗的0.2星等。计划在中太赤道纬度覆盖至少50平方度，使用位于拉帕尔mo的2.5米以撒克星系望远镜上的宽场相机。该计划于1998年11月作为英国天文台宽场测量计划的一部分启动。本文描述了淡光天变测量计划的主要目标、用于提取相关信息的方法以及未来展望。
