地磁俘获宇宙线反质子的发现

摘要

若干理论工作已考虑过地球磁层中存在显著反质子通量的可能性。这些反粒子产生于高能宇宙线与地球大气的核相互作用,并积聚在数百公里高度处的地磁场中。类比中子衰变产生质子(这是能量在数十 MeV 以上的俘获质子的主要来源),已有人假设反照反中子衰变也会贡献反质子。本快报报道了地球周围反质子辐射带的发现。PAMELA 实验测量了南大西洋异常区(SAA)内动能范围 60--750 MeV 的俘获反质子能谱。同时报道了辐射带外大气亚截止反质子谱的测量结果。PAMELA 数据表明,在当前太阳活动极小期,SAA 区的磁层反质子通量超出宇宙线反质子通量三个数量级,并超出辐射带外亚截止反质子通量四个数量级,构成了地球附近最丰富的反质子源。
