活动星系核 (AGN) Mrk 1018 在 1984 年从 1.9 型变为 1 型后，最近又回复到了 1.9 型状态。我们持续的监测现在显示，该 AGN 已停止其剧烈的变暗过程，并在 2016 年 10 月左右达到最小值。最小值之后是一次爆发，亮度以约 0.25 U 波段星等/月的速度上升。联合 Chandra 和 Hubble 观测证实，这次再增亮至少持续到 2017 年 2 月。监测工作在 2017 年 7 月源天体走出太阳遮挡区后恢复，此时发现该 AGN 仅比其最小值亮约 0.4 星等。间歇性的爆发伴随着宽线轮廓中出现红翼不对称性，这表明存在不均匀的宽线区。Mrk 1018 在快速变暗后当前的闪烁亮度表明，该源可能已重新点燃、保持在低水平的变光状态，或者可能在未来几年继续变暗。区分这些可能性需要连续的多波段监测。
