VHE γ射线成像望远镜 CAT 于 1996 年 10 月开始采集数据。位于法国南部的 Themis 日光场所，配备 17.7 m^2 的 Davies-Cotton 镜面，搭载 600 个 PMTs 的相机。介绍了机械结构与光学系统、PMTs 与电子器件。基于其运行的前 7 个月，报告了其性能指标。
