摘要
现在已清楚，中心星双星性在行星状星云的形成与演化中起着关键作用，其中有显著比例容纳了经历过一次或多次公共包层事件的密近双星中心星。对这些系统的最新研究揭示了许多令人惊讶之处，它们对公共包层——一种在包括宇宙学上重要的Ia型超新星以及其它瞬变现象（将被下一代设施如大型综合巡天望远镜和空间引力波探测器激光干涉空间天线所探测）的广泛天体物理现象形成中的关键阶段——施加了重要约束。
