Arp 299C 是一个来自合并星系系统 Arp 299 的 5×10^10 太阳质量的红外源。它是已知最具发射力的星系中心之外的物体。我们的数据表明，Arp 299C 的 8-13 微米谱具有强烈的 [NeII] 发射线和多环芳烃分子的发射特征。这些发射特征特征于伴随星际爆发形成的 HII 区域。我们未检测到来自活动星系核的高激发离子线，亦未发现可能指示隐藏紧凑星核的深硅酸盐吸收特征。我们推断，Arp 299C 的能量来源于强烈的星际形成爆发。
