亚毫米星系(SMGs)长期以来已知会产生远红外/亚毫米背景的大部分贡献。新的观测表明,这些系统不仅非常 luminous,而且也非常致密。我们present了两项结果:(a)对 SMGs 分子线发射的调查,确认了 Keck 光学红移并揭示了其高气体和动力学质量;以及 (b)对一种 SMGs 剩余光学发射的详细案例研究,揭示了其高金属丰度和较旧的恒星群。我们推断出在宇宙时代 z~2.7 的星系数密度中,拥有超过 10^11 太阳质量的星系数量较高;这在当前的星系演化半分析模型中并未得到解释。
