近期文献声称，通过对星暴矮星系 NGC 4214 中年轻星团的最重恒星质量和 Halpha 光度的观测，证伪了星团中最重恒星质量 mmax 与其嵌入星团质量之间存在的非平凡关系（即 mmax-Mecl 关系）。本文通过将 NGC 4214 的结果与银河系观测进行比较，表明 NGC 4214 与 mmax-Mecl 关系及积分星系恒星初始质量函数（IGIMF）理论的预测非常吻合；结论上的差异源于随机抽样期望与 mmax-Mecl 关系期望之间存在高度简并，同时也由于将 mmax 解释为随机抽样 IMF 中的截断质量所致。要打破这种简并，需要对具有比现有文献中更低的恒星形成率（SFRs）的星系进行额外分析。
