利用赫歇尔-SPIRE 光谱探测 M82 的分子星际介质

我们展示了用赫歇尔 SPIRE 傅里叶变换光谱仪对星暴星系 M82 的观测结果。光谱(194-671 {\mu}m)显示了由 M82 中心区域发射的从 J = 4-3 到 13-12 的显著 CO 转动阶梯谱线。首次观测到的高 J 谱线很好地约束了气体的基本性质。对这些高信噪比的 12CO 和 13CO 谱线进行的辐射传输建模强烈表明存在一个温度约 500 K、压力约 3x10^6 K cm^-3 的非常温暖的分子气体成分,这与斯皮策和 ISO 的 H_2 转动谱线测量结果非常吻合。我们认为这种温暖气体是由星际介质(ISM)中湍流的耗散加热的,而非来自星暴的 X 射线或紫外通量。本文展示了 SPIRE FTS 在研究邻近星系星际介质方面的前景。
