用于ALICE TPC升级的全尺寸4-GEM原型的粒子鉴别研究

摘要

大型时间投影室是CERN LHC上ALICE实验中进行径迹重建和带电粒子鉴别的主要装置。在2019/20年第二次长停机之后,LHC将提供以约50 kHz相互作用率碰撞的Pb束流,这约为TPC当前读出速率的50倍。这将显著提高对被视为表征此类碰撞中产生的QCD物质的关键观测量的稀有探针的灵敏度。为充分利用此亮度,目前使用的门控多丝正比室将被替换。该升级依赖于采用气体电子倍增体技术的连续运行读出探测器,以通过测量电离比能损dEE/dxx保持粒子鉴别性能。2014年组装了一个全尺寸读出室原型,其放大级由四层GEM箔组成。该原型的性能在CERN PS的测试束流活动中进行了评估。dEE/dxx分辨率既符合当前运行的基于MWPC的读出室性能,也符合ALICE TPC升级计划的高要求。对读出系统的详细模拟能够再现数据。
