斯隆数字巡天（Sloan Digital Sky Survey）对球状星团Pal 5所在天区的数据揭示了存在一条延伸达10度弧长的长而巨大的潮汐碎片流。因此，Pal 5为银河系中球状星团的潮汐瓦解提供了一个突出的例子。来自VLT光谱的视向速度显示，Pal 5具有极低的速度弥散，这与其总光度推导出的极低质量相符。
