ORIGIN:宇宙黎明以来的金属创生与演化

摘要

ORIGIN 是响应欧空局 M3 任务征集的一项提案,旨在研究自宇宙黎明时期以来的金属创生。利用软 X 射线波段的高光谱分辨率,ORIGIN 将能够识别从碳(C)到镍(Ni)的所有丰度元素在红移 z=10 及更远时期的物理条件。该任务将回答如下问题:第一批金属是何时产生的?宇宙金属含量如何演化?宇宙中大多数金属存在于何处?金属在结构形成与演化中扮演什么角色?为了触及早期宇宙,ORIGIN 将利用伽马射线暴(GRB)来研究其宿主星系中的局部环境。这要求卫星具备在不到一分钟内转向 GRB 位置的能力。通过研究星系团的化学组成和特性,我们可以将探测范围扩展到更低红移(z ~ 0.2)。为此任务,我们需要一台具有大视场的高分辨率光谱成像仪器。利用同一台仪器,我们还可以研究迄今为止仅被部分探测到的温热-热星系际介质(WHIM)中的重子。WHIM 中密度较低的部分将利用 GRB 光谱中的低红移吸收线进行研究。
