X-shooter 凭借其分辨率、光谱覆盖范围和效率的特性，为获取最高红移类星体 (z ~ 6) 的光谱提供了独特的机会，这将使我们能够对关键宇宙学问题展开成功研究，从再电离过程的细节到首批星系和活动星系核的演化。本文展示了三个 z ~ 6 类星体的光谱：一个在 X-shooter 调试期间获得，另外两个在我们正在进行的 GTO 项目背景下获得。将此样本与文献中的数据相结合，我们更新了 4.5 < z < 5 范围内 C IV 宇宙质量密度的值，证实了其在 2.5 至 5 之间随红移的恒定趋势。
