欧盟指令95/46/EC和即将实施的欧盟通用数据保护条例赋予欧洲人访问与其有关数据的权利。消费者可以联系其服务提供商获取存储和处理的所有个人数据。此外，他们可以要求删除（或更正）其数据。我们进行了一项卧底实地研究，以确定这些权利是否能在实践中行使。我们评估了在德国流行的150个智能手机应用和120个网站供应商的行为。我们的删除请求在52%至57%的案例中得到满足，少于一半的数据提供请求得到满意答复。此外，我们观察到粗心实例：约20%的网站所有者会将我们的个人数据泄露给冒名顶替者。结果表明，行使二十年前引入的隐私权在大多数情况下仍然令人沮丧。
