用单像素望远镜荧光探测器阵列(FAST)原型在南北半球观测超高能宇宙线

摘要

超高能宇宙线(UHECRs)的起源与性质是天体粒子物理界的热点话题。单像素望远镜荧光探测器阵列(FAST)是一种下一代地基UHECR观测站的设计,满足大面积、低成本探测器的要求,适于以空前口径测量最高能宇宙线的性质。我们已研制出由四只200 mm光电倍增管置于直径1.6 m的分段镜面焦点处组成的全尺寸原型。过去三年中,我们在美国犹他州的望远镜阵列实验(Telescope Array Experiment)安装了三台原型。这些望远镜自安装以来持续取数。我们报告全尺寸FAST原型的初步结果,包括对UHECRs的测量以及用于研究大气透明度的远距离紫外激光器。此外,我们讨论在阿根廷的皮埃尔·奥热天文台(Pierre Auger Observatory)安装一台相同FAST原型的计划。对望远镜阵列实验和皮埃尔·奥热天文台可能的益处包括:对比两实验上方大气的透明度、研究其现有荧光探测器的系统不确定性,以及对其能量与Xmax尺度进行交叉定标。
