质子-核子碰撞中顶夸克产生的观测

摘要
本文报告了在质子-核子碰撞中首次观测到顶夸克产生，该结果利用 CMS 实验在 CERN LHC 上收集的质子-铅数据，核子-核子质心能量为 sqrt(s[NN]) = 8.16 TeV。测量使用恰好包含一个孤立电子或缪子以及至少四个喷注的事例进行。数据样本对应的积分亮度为 174 逆纳靶恩。tt-bar 信号相对于仅背景假设的显著性超过五个标准偏差。测得的截面为 sigma[tt-bar] = 45 +/- 8 nb，与微扰量子色动力学的预言一致。
