SrTiO3中极化密度波的观测

摘要

SrTiO3中“失败”的铁电相变的本质一直是凝聚态物理学中的一个长期难题。一个令人信服的解释是铁电性与具有介观极化调制的失稳之间的竞争。这些极化密度波在量子临界点附近应变得特别强,会破坏局域反演对称性,并且难以用传统的X射线散射方法探测。本文结合飞秒X射线自由电子激光(XFEL)与太赫兹相干控制方法,在有限动量下探测反演对称性破缺,并在纳米长度尺度上可视化SrTiO3中极化的失稳。我们发现了在数十纳米长度尺度上特别软化的极性声学集体模式。这些前驱集体激发为SrTiO3中推测的介观调制相提供了证据。
