我们于 2001 年 1 月和 3 月使用 CANGAROO-II 成像克尔透镜望远镜观测了马克西亚纳 421,在 TeV 能量下的异常高状态下进行了 14 小时的观测,观测高度角约为 。在此条件下,检测到 298 个 52 个伽马射线-like 事件(显著性为 5.7 ),能量 TeV。由于收集面积大幅增加,观测灵敏度优于通常的近天顶观测。假设内在幂律谱,推导出微分能谱 dN/dE = (3.3 \pm 0.9_{stat.} \pm 0.3_{syst.}) \times 10^{-13} (E/10 {Te V})^{-(4.0 ^{+0.9}_{-0.6}_{stat.} \pm 0.3_{syst.})} 个/cm/sec/TeV,该谱比之前在约 1 TeV 能量处测得的谱更陡,支持马克西亚纳 421 谱中存在截止的证据。然而,我们数据中 4 的 20 TeV 以上能量的超标志,偏好截止能量约为 8 TeV,位于此前在 TeV 能量测量报告的范围上端。
