铁以外元素的核合成主要由 s 过程和 r 过程中的中子俘获主导。然而,32 种稳定的富质子同位素无法在这些过程中形成,因为它们被屏蔽在 s 过程流和 r 过程衰变链之外。这些原子核被认为源于 p 过程和 rp 过程。对于所有这些过程,当前的核天体物理研究致力于解决涉及放射性同位素的更精确反应数据的需求。根据特定反应的不同,研究人员通过正运动学或逆运动学、正向或时间反演方向进行调查,以确定或至少约束所需的反应截面。反质子与离子研究设施(FAIR)将为研究许多重要反应提供独特且前所未有的机会。其高产额的放射性同位素,即使远离稳定谷,也允许对涉及 r 过程或 rp 过程等奇异过程的同位素进行研究。
