高红移 Gunn-Peterson 效应的最新结果

摘要
回顾了在 ESO 星际介质关键项目下,对高红移类鲹鱼星系的光谱中测量由稀薄星际介质(IGM)引起的光学深度(GP 检测)的尝试。结果表明,在类鲹鱼星系的最高可观测红移处,尚未发现任何 Gunn-Peterson 效应。Ly 线统计数据与此限制一致,无法解释在某颗类鲹鱼星系中观察到的强吸收,仍为真实的 HeII Gunn-Peterson 效应留下了空间。HI/HeII GP 比值暗示在 时存在较陡的紫外背景辐射,及其来源为恒星级天体。
