思维语言神经硬件:旧游戏的新规则

摘要
思维语言(LOT)假说认为,至少某些重要的认知过程涉及类似语言的表征。这些表征必须由适当的硬件来处理。由于生物认知的器官是神经系统,生物认知是否依赖于思维语言取决于神经硬件的工作方式。我区分了不同版本的思维语言,阐明了它们的硬件要求,并考虑了哪些版本的思维语言得到了经验证据的支持。我认为经典思维语言假说(Fodor 1975)被排除了;得到经验证据最佳支持的思维语言版本是非经典思维语言论题,即某些神经表征反映了自然语言的某些结构并以类似语言的方式表征,然而它们以非数字方式编码信息,并由依赖于句法结构以及许多其他特征的普通(非数字,因此是非经典的)神经计算来处理。
