近红外观测局部臂

摘要
人们曾利用猕鸋斯坦夫1.5米望远镜在特纳尔菲尔德，对局部臂进行了近红外观测。对盘面进行了带可调参数的模型拟合，以复现DIRBE-COBE调查，然后从观测数据中减去该模型，以获得局部臂的干净地图，无需受盘面其他成分的污染。该臂在平面上超过70 pc，宽度超过200 pc。由于在约80度的赤道距离上，臂偏离银河平面的偏差很大，仅能在±6度的观测窗口内部分别观测到。随着臂逐渐接近太阳，臂的高度减小，宽度也减小。
