螺旋星系的更多卫星星系

摘要

我们呈现了一套与银河系相似 luminosity 的孤立螺旋星系的卫星星系修订并扩展的目录。该样本包含 115 个卫星星系,其中 69 个是在我们多光纤红移调查中发现的。用于进一步探讨来自原始样本(Zaritsky 等 1993)的结果。卫星星系按定义位于投影分离 <~ 500 kpc,与其关联的 primary 星系的绝对遥远速度差小于 500 km/s 且至少暗淡 2.2 星等。该调查的一个关键特征是这些系统的严格孤立性,这简化了任何动力学分析。我们发现没有证据表明卫星系统的速度分散随半径增加而减小,直至银心距为 400 kpc,这表明光柱延伸至 200 kpc 之外。 Furthermore, the new sample affirms our previous conclusions (Zaritsky et al. 1993) that (1) the velocity difference between a satellite and its primary is not strongly correlated with the rotation speed of the primary, (2) the system of satellites has a slight net rotation (34 \pm 14 km/s) in the same sense as the primary's disk, and (3) that the halo mass of an ~ L* spiral galaxy is in excess of 2 x 10^{12} solar masses.
