我们分析了在 14 个月期间获得的 37 项 RXTE 对类型 2 星系 Mrk348 的观测。我们确认 Smith 等人先前报告的谱变异，即柱密度随计数率增加而约减小 3 倍。柱密度变化可能源于云在吸收屏蔽中随机漂移，或源于光子加 ionization 过程。我们的建模表明，前者更可能。这些云应位于距离源 >2 光年处，直径为几光日，密度 >10^7 cm^(-3)，因此可能位于宽谱线区域（BLR）之外。
