星际气体云的磁震学:揭示隐藏的维度

恒星与行星形成于致密的星际分子云内部,其形成过程印刻在云的三维(3D)形态上。由于投影效应以及难以测量其沿视线方向的延展,确定星际云的三维结构仍然具有挑战性。我们报告在孤立星际云 Musca 中探测到法向振动模,从而能够确定该云的三维物理尺度。发现 Musca 正在整体振动,具有侧视薄片而非先前所假设的长丝状物的特征模。我们通过三维磁流体动力学模拟重建了 Musca 的物理性质,重现了观测到的法向模并确认了薄片状形态。
