我们报告了对低红移近型 QSO 对和近距离高红移 QSO 三元组的 Keck HIRES、KPNO 4m/RC Spec 和 HST FOS 光谱的结果，以探索 Ly α 吸收云的尺度演化、形状和聚类。我们在此强调的结果表明，Ly α 云的尺度随红移没有显著演化，强 (W > 0.4A) Ly α 森林吸收体很可能不是纤维状结构，而更可能是类板状结构。对于 C IV 吸收体，在单个视线上 200 km/s < Δv < 600 km/s 尺度上的大部分聚类是由于单个吸收体的内部速度，而非吸收体之间的聚类。
