LOFAR发现PSR B0823+26的宁静发射模式

PSR B0823+26是一颗周期为0.53秒的射电脉冲星,在秒至(至少)小时的时间尺度上展现出大量发射现象,包括零脉冲(nulling)、子脉冲漂移(subpulse drifting)和模式变换(mode-changing)。研究诸如PSR B0823+26这样的脉冲星,可进一步深入了解这些不同发射现象之间的关系,以及它们可能告诉我们关于脉冲星磁层的什么信息。在此我们报道LOFAR的发现:PSR B0823+26具有一种微弱且零星发射的“宁静”(Q)发射模式,其平均强度弱于更规则发射的“亮”(B)模式100倍以上,且零脉冲比例为其四十倍。此前,该脉冲星在Q模式下未被探测到,并被假定为连续零脉冲。PSR B0823+26在转入B模式之前平均流量进一步降低,或许在此时真正完全关闭。此外,利用LOFAR、Westerbork、Lovell和Effelsberg望远镜在110 MHz至2.7 GHz之间进行的同步观测表明,Q模式与B模式之间的转换发生在中子星单次旋转之内,并且在观测的频率范围内同时发生。
