我们报告旨在探测射电星系中大尺度 HI 结构的研究的最初结果。在其中三种情况中的两种 (Coma A 和 B2 0648+27)，检测到大量分布在数十 kpc 范围内的 HI，这表明该系统的起源是一次 major 合并，并允许推断该合并必须发生的时间。对于第三种对象 (3C 433) 的情况则不那么清晰。我们为其中一种研究的射电星系提出了演化序列。还讨论了本研究对高红移对象以及“正常” (即射电安静) 椭圆星系的含义。
