相对论对射束-等离子体不稳定性的实验室观测

摘要

我们报告了在相对论电子-正电子对发生物质中集体行为的测量。使用 CERN HiRadMat 设施的 Fireball 平台,440 GeV 质子用于产生一种超相对论、电中性的电子-正电子对束,其在环境 RF 放电等离子体中传播。通过高灵敏度的费米旋转探针诊断了由于束-等离子体不稳定性引起的磁场增强,同时对诊断冲量响应进行了详细表征。测量得到的路径积分磁场与粒子-in-cell 模拟的预测相符。该结果为模型提供了关键基准,这些模型用于天体物理情境中的相对论束-等离子体相互作用,如类星体喷流和脉冲星风星云。
