JWST的PEARLS:背光星系系统VV 191中的尘埃消光和引力透镜

我们利用叠加的椭圆星系系统VV191a对旋涡星系VV191b进行背光照明,推导了其尘埃消光的空间和波长行为,该星系对具有极其有利的几何构型。使用JWST和HST的成像覆盖了0.3-4.5微米的波长范围,具有高角分辨率,在0.6至1.5微米范围内详细追踪了尘埃。清晰的尘埃带延伸至明亮旋臂之外,并描绘出复杂的网络,在约1.7个彼得罗西安半径处出现非常尖锐的径向截止。我们给出了半径14-21千秒差距范围内各波段的消光轮廓和覆盖统计。我们推导了消光律随波长的变化;尘埃带内部和之间的数据都明显倾向于比星暴和星系恒星形成区更强的红化行为(在0.6至0.9微米间R~2.0,到1.5微米时接近1)。幂律消光行为λ^(-β)在0.6-0.9微米给出β=2.1。R随波长增加而减小(0.9至1.5微米间R~1.1),而β变陡至2.5。不同柱密度区域的混合使波长行为变平,因此这些结果表明存在与我们附近不同的尘埃颗粒种群。NIRCam图像揭示了一个来自红移z~1背景星系的透镜弧和反像,在前景椭圆星系核周围2.8角秒处跨越90度方位角,以及另一个弱透镜星系。透镜模型和成像数据给出爱因斯坦半径2.0千秒差距内的质光比为7.6(太阳单位)。
