John Ellard Gore FRAS, MRIA (1845-1910) 是一位爱尔兰业余天文学家，也是多产的大众天文学书籍作者。他的主要观测兴趣是变星，他发现了其中几颗，并担任英国天文学会 (BAA) 变星部的主管。他也对双星感兴趣，这促使他计算了许多此类系统的轨道根数。他证明了天狼星的伴星（许多人认为是一颗暗天体）实际上是自发光的。通过这样做，他首次指出了后来被称为白矮星的物质具有巨大的密度。
