本文讨论了使用 XEUS 对近距离 AGN 进行高分辨率光谱的潜力。重点在于所需的能量分辨率，以便消除不同的光谱成分。我们表明亟需高光谱分辨率，如果可能的话，1 eV 的光谱分辨率相对于 2 eV 分辨率会显著增加诊断能力。
