H.E.S.S. 对船底座星云及其神秘碰撞风双星 Eta Carinae 的观测

大质量双星系统 Eta Carinae 及其周围的 HII 复合体——船底座星云,是潜在的粒子加速场所,预期可产生甚高能 (VHE; E > 100 GeV) \gamma 射线辐射。本文展示了 H.E.S.S. 望远镜阵列从 2004 年至 2010 年进行的 VHE \gamma 射线观测所收集的数据,覆盖了 Eta Carinae 的完整轨道周期。在 33.1 小时的数据集中,未发现来自 Eta Carinae 的显著 \gamma 射线辐射迹象,并在 470 GeV 能量阈值以上导出了 7.7 x 10-13 ph cm-2 s-1 的 \gamma 射线通量上限(99% 置信水平)。结合 Fermi-LAT 探测到高达 100 GeV 的高能 (HE; 0.1 GeV > E > 100 GeV) \gamma 射线辐射,并假设平均 HE 谱指数延续至 VHE 能域,这些结果表明在 HE 和 VHE \gamma 射线能区之间存在谱截断。这可能是由加速粒子分布的截断或风碰撞区域中严重的 \gamma-\gamma\ 吸收损耗引起的。此外,对来自船底座星云的延展 \gamma 射线辐射的搜索得出了 4.2 x 10-12 ph cm-2 s-1 的 \gamma 射线通量上限(99% 置信水平)。导出的宇宙线增强因子上限约为 23,并与针对老年混合形态超新星遗迹 W 28 发现的结果进行了比较。
