近似奇异等温质量分布带有小核心半径，与星系动力学、透镜统计和透镜模型相符，可用于 E/S0 星系的模型。带有恒定质量-光度比的 de Vaucouleurs 模型则不符合。尽管等温分布可能是过于简化的模型，但 E/S0 星系（至少在投影上）必须在有效半径尺度上拥有显著的暗物质。
